A Full-Service Rehabilitation Center for Animals

WHO WE ARE

At Scout's House, we believe your pet deserves the best rehabilitative care possible. That's why we have two veterinarians and a licensed physical therapist certified in Canine Rehabilitation working together to create and implement your pet's customized therapy program. And why we also employ Registered Veterinary Technicians, each with specialized training that makes her uniquely qualified to do the work we do.

Please take a moment to read our brief biographies. We think you'll see that, collectively, we have all the right skills, training, and experience needed to provide an exceptional level of rehabilitative care for your pet:

Janet C. Lowery, DVM

A co-founder of Scout's House, Dr. Lowery has practiced veterinary medicine on the peninsula for over 20 years. She is the supervising veterinarian at Scout's House, performing all initial examinations and overseeing treatments. Dr. Lowery completed the coursework for the Certification Program in Canine Rehabilitation at the University of Tennessee and has attended numerous seminars dedicated to specific topics in canine rehabilitation. She is also a co-owner of Mid-Peninsula Animal Hospital in Menlo Park, where she's worked since 1996. Prior to that, she practiced emergency medicine at South Peninsula Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Palo Alto for 13 years. Dr. Lowery received her DVM degree from the University of Illinois.

Janet L. Dunn, DVM

Also a co-founder of Scout's House, Dr. Dunn provides acupuncture and veterinary orthopedic manipulation (VOM) services exclusively, both in her private practice and at Scout's House. She practiced general veterinary medicine for eight years in local hospitals before owning and operating a general medicine house call practice for more than 16 years. Dr. Dunn learned VOM in 1999 and completed the veterinary acupuncture course offered by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 2000, after which she started her small animal VOM and acupuncture practice. Dr. Dunn is a graduate of the Veterinary School of Medicine at Purdue University. She has also completed two course modules for the Certification Program in Canine Rehabilitation at the University of Tennessee.

Krista Niebaum, MPT, CCRT

Krista's experience as a licensed physical therapist for humans is critical to our work at Scout's House. Her expertise in treatment of patients with spinal cord injuries and other neurological dysfunctions, geriatric medicine, and orthotics/prosthetics gives her an especially solid background in treating many of the pets we see. As our Director of Rehabilitation Therapy, Krista collaborates with Dr. Lowery to perform the initial examinations of all new clients and to create and individualized treatment plan for each patient. Krista is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist, having completed the Canine Rehabilitation Therapy certification program at the Animal Rehabilitation Institute in Florida in early 2006. She received her Master's of Physical Therapy from the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hahnemann University.

Sandy Gregory, M Ed, RVT, CCRA

Along with being a Registered Veterinary Technician with seven years of clinic experience, Sandy also has a Master's degree in Exercise Science from Cleveland State University, a Bachelor's degree from the University of Akron, and an Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Foothill College. She's also been a member of the American Council on Exercise since 1993. Along with implementing the treatment plans for all of our patients, Sandy is also our Exercise Pathologist, creating conditioning programs for obese pets. Sandy's years of experience doing water therapy with humans at a sports medicine rehabilitation facility, as well as her experience rehabilitating gorillas with the Gladys Porter Zoo in Texas and dolphins with the Marine Mammal Center in California, makes her especially well suited to her work at Scout's House.

Cindy Daniels, RVT, CCRA

As a Registered Veterinary Technician with more than ten years of clinic experience and a graduate of The Lang Institute for Canine Massage, Cindy puts her extensive knowledge of canine physiology, anatomy, and gait assessment to good use here, helping our patients move better and feel better through their rehabilitation sessions at Scout's House. In addition to implementing treatment plans, Cindy is also our in-house Massage Therapist, bringing the recuperative benefits of massage therapy to our canine and feline patients. She received her Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Foothill College.

Cheryl Dickerson, RVT

As a Rehabilitation Therapist, Cheryl frequently calls on her seven years of experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician, as well as on her personal experience pet-sitting “special needs” pets to do her job at Scout's House. She worked in several general practice veterinary clinics since receiving her Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Western Career College in 1999. And her keen understanding of boarding issues, particularly those for special needs pets, has enabled her to become a significant contributor to our efforts to design and build a new boarding facility for special needs pets at Scout's House.

Andrea Mocabee, BS, RVT

Veterinary medicine is a second career for Andrea–but one for which she clearly has an intuitive sense. Her gentle way with animals and her inherent understanding of the principles of physical rehabilitation therapy together make her an especially patient and effective Rehabilitation Therapist at Scout's House. Andrea has a Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State University and an Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Foothill College. She received her RVT license in 2007.

Susan Stienstra

As our Front Desk Manager, Susan is the face–and voice–of Scout's House. Her many years of administrative office experience allow her to oversee all of our administrative operations with skill and grace. And her comprehensive knowledge of all things rabbit makes her an invaluable asset to our rehab facility for dogs, cats, and other companion animals. In addition to having owned and managed her own retail specialty store/rabbit adoption center, Susan is a Licensed Educator with the House Rabbit Society and has been doing domestic rabbit rescue for more than a decade.

Lisa Stahr

For over 20 years, Lisa was a marketing communications consultant, writing, editing, and producing annual reports, brochures, websites, and other collateral for some of the biggest—and smallest—companies in the Silicon Valley, including Apple, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, and Adobe Systems. Then, one day a neighbor handed her a puppy with many special needs and Lisa's life, both personal and professional, changed. As a co-founder of Scout's House, Lisa puts her marketing and business management expertise to good use, managing the company's day-to-day operations and seeing to it that everyone who needs our services knows we're here. Lisa received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Davis.
